Water Born CED

The title of electrophoretic coating (electrophoretic coating, electrodip or electrodeposition) means the deposition of a color layer of blue-based paint on a conductive object (mainly metals) by electrochemical reactions that are carried out through immersion operations. The basis of the reaction is the electrolysis of water, which is abundantly available

Nowadays, coatings applied by electrophoresis are widely used as anti-corrosion linings. The advantages of this method include the following:

– The thickness of the color film provides uniformity for the pieces (even with complex structure).

– They have lower operating costs.

– They have a high production speed.

– Due to the use of closed cycle, they have high efficiency.

Environmental problems do not have other solvent-based methods.

The body to be coated should be completely immersed in the paint pool and should not float on top of the pool. It should not be used in the form of a jar that takes out the contents of the dye bath with them. Only conductive bodies such as steel, galvanized and aluminum are covered by electroplating. The quality of the paint coating strongly depends on the quality of the body surface such as roughness, rust and uniformity.

The surface of the body must be pre-treated to ensure that it is free from fat and oil. In general, the preparation of the body should be a chemical process in a humid environment to ensure good adhesion of the paint film to the surface of the body. The following steps must be done before electrophoretic coating:

Preparation (pretreatment):

– Initial degreasing (manually) if necessary – Degreasing by spraying and/or immersion – Dewatering by spraying and/or immersion operations – The nucleation part (Activation) – Phosphating by spraying and/or immersion – Dewatering by spraying and/or immersion operations – Passivation by spraying and/or immersion – The last stage of water extraction with DI water – Drying if necessary The electrophoresis method is divided into two methods, cathodic and anodic. The newer cathodic method is used in car factories today because of its more advantages than the anodic method, which is known as cathodic electrodeposition (CED). Cathodic electrodeposition paints are generally based on epoxy resin that has been neutralized by acid, the positive charge of the paint particles causes the particles to move under the application of electric current towards car parts and bodies (cathode).
